The place almost looks like a fast food joint. The service was not very good. The food was bland. They still charged an 18% mandatory tip on "accident" they said. Not worth it.

We loved the pumpkin chutney with chips and the potato cakes that were brought out as appetizers. The samosas and naan were excellent, and the chiken tikka masala and vegetable korma were both very good. The only thing less than stellar was the daal, but since that changes daily, it's probable that the next day's daal was better. Also, my husband and I both thought the portion of rice was a little skimpy for the amount of non-rice food we had. But the overall flavor of the food is wonderful.

Gourmet India is located in downtown San Diego. Park the Horton Plaza parking garage and get your ticket validated in the mall. Hector our server was excellent. However, the food was expensive. You can get equal quality food at other less expensive restaurants in San Diego without the hassle of going into downtown.

Food was too spicy -- their definition of "mild" is not Western mild, which leads to some communication mishaps.

The quality of food at this location is phenomenal! We loved everything about our experience at this location and enjoyed sitting on the floor in the booth with pillows so much! Great staff and happy atmosphere!

Just a quick note to say that we enjoyed our experience. Very good food. Nice environment. Friendly service. The woman who attended our table (Anna) was very helpful, nice, and accommodating.

It was a very good meal and nice atmosphere. A little pricey considering there is quite a bit of competion when considering where to eat indian food in San Diego. I think its probably in a high rent district so you pay in part for the location.

We appreciated that the video did not have sound on to compete with the soft music playing. Many restaurants seem to think diners want loud music while they dine and that interferes with conversation which is an important part of dining.

Excellent food and service. However, one of our guest ordered an 'Arnold Palmer' and the waitress asked if he wanted a refill. After the third or fourth she commented "oh, you know these aren't free refills, right?" He did not know that and @ 3 dollars a pop it got a little pricey. On a budget and visiting from Brazil...would have stuck to water instead. Otherwise, great experience.
