Every time my family and I dine at Otani's, we have an amazing experience. We love Nancy, the best server in the world, who always takes care of us, and has watched my niece and nephews grow up. Otani is usually our go-to restaurant for special occasions. This visit was for my husband's birthday. We had a 6:30 reservation. We were seated within 5 minutes, but from there everything went downhill. There was only 1 server for the entire dining room, she appeared approx 20-25 minutes after we were seated, to take our drink order, I tried to order sushi as an appetizer, because we were starving, but was told that the sushi orders were backed up. We placed our order and received soup and salad approx 15 minutes later. Our tableside chef arrived approx 20 minutes later, and noticed that the tabletop grill had not been pre-heated by the one server on duty, so he attempted to wait a few minutes until the grill pre-heated, but it was very evident that the grill still was not hot enough, our veggies were hard, raw and crunchy, the rice was just luke warm and the meat was heated, but not seared. The pre-meal show was definitely a dud, no volcano, no lava, no flame. We fared better than our neigboring table, who had an older gentleman for their chef, who kept explaining that he was newly trained and hadn't learned how to flip spatulas, etc. There were constant complaints from other patrons about the wait time, service and overall experience. There are 2 other Hibachi restaurants within a 3 mile radius of Otani, we probably will not return anytime soon.....very disappointed, especially because we were celebrating a special occasion. 1/8/2013 9:39:02 PM
