Azuca is a gem of a restaurant tucked away in Southtown San Antonio. The decor is lively an stimulating, with beautiful blown glass chandeliers and paintings by local artist Carla Veliz. I really appreciate that the waitstaff works together to accommodate each table; even the owner came by to check on us, see if we needed anything, and make sure we were enjoying our meal. Once we paid the bill we stayed talking and enjoying the atmosphere. However, no one ever returned to provide us water. Actually we never saw anyone again come back outside. We arrived and waited for almost 5 minutes to be seated, we were told by at least 4 different persons that someone would be by to seat us. In the main dining area there were about 15 tables, of which there was 1 large group and a table of 2. We were finally sat at a table. The atmosphere was excellent and really was the winner of the entire outing. It took almost another 10 minutes for our drink order to be taken, water and Pepsi. My wife was never offered a drink refill for the entire supper and I was only offered 1. To which was finished prior to out food being served and the other during the meal, but I ran out. So the place did not seem busy at all but out waitress kept on seeing other tables and the other help there would just pass us. My plate was served to me then the waitress said that she would be right back with my wife's and left. She went to get another drink for another table; about 3 minutes passed and then she said I'm going to get your food. Another bit of time passes and then she serves my wife dinner. This was the last time we were seen by any persons in the estaishment. My wife had to finally flag down the waitress and tell her we were ready to go and get to go boxes. If the service was better than horrable this place would be awesome, but all of our expectations fell away. If I was ever asked about our experience from my friends and co-workers I would be transparent in our experience. LOVE this place. Their Pepita Crusted Goat Cheese salad is SO great. I've had their Sea Bass and Ahi before - and tried the Curry Seafood tonight. Everything is always so fresh and so good. The food here was extremely overpriced for what you get. As well as not very flavorful. My family of 3 were the only people in the restaurant, and yet the service was not good at all. Very, very slow service. It took over 40 minutes to get our food once ordered and never got a refill of my watered-down soda the entire time. The sea bass that they say they're "known" for was very under seasoned but the potatoes were good. The shrimp my wife had were ok and the mofongo was not good at all. The best thing was the chicken tenders my daughter had. And even with the slow service, they felt necessary to add in an 18% gratuity that was not even worth 5%. The food was only okay, quite pricey, but the service was not very good. We were waving for a server for more lemonade, it was a slow night, only 3 tables or so were full, and there were multiple waitstaff standing around, yet still had to wait awhile just for a lemonade refill.
