I was very surprised at how much it had changed. The décor is beautiful, the waiter was very nice and his service was good, however the meal was slow in coming. The food was different than what we have had at other restaurants. My husband said his fajitas were tasty but needed more vegetables for moisture. They need to improve on their rice. My rice was dry.

We underestimated the crowd for Cinco de Mayo, and the restaurant was bustling. The saxophone player was talented but incongruous. Our waiter went out of his way to help us and gave us a free cheese dip for the miscue that left us unattended for 10 minutes when we arrived. The restaurant is beautiful, and the art is magnificent! We will return on a less busy day to enjoy the regular menu.

The Guacamole is great, especially the Rustic.
The musician performing that eve was AWESOME. Would be even more enjoyable if live performer was on feed to the tv screens around the room.

All was nice experience from the greeting, waiter, food, etc. This is the second time and will be going back soon.

Service was not the usual, restaurant was very crowded so we did not get the usual prompt service. My husband got his fahitas but they were hot enough and the flame was out. He did ask the server when we eventually got her attention and she went and got a lighter to light the flame. It took several minutes for each request to be fulfilled. As usual the food was excellent. We will definately go back again since this is our favorite mexican restaurant.

As always, El Sol de Tala has a wonderful atmosphere. Very welcoming staff, quick to make guests feel comfortable. The house Margaritas are a very good start to the evening.The Panuchos appetizer is highly recommended. The Tala combination entree has been my wife's favorite since 1981, and can still be depended on to be delicious. I chose the Caldo Luna de Miel, a spicy-brothed seafood and vegetable soup/stew that was prepared to perfection table-side by our waiter. I would highly recommend this out of the ordinary (for me at least) choice, as the oysters, fish and huge shrimp were fantastic in the spicy but not too hot broth. The crab legs were delicious as well, even if they were a little "messy" to clean and add to the soup.

The service was great, chips, salsa and cheese were great. The main entrees were a disaster.

Low marks are solely due to slow sevice. Seemed short staffed, waiter did make good effort
Guacamole was delicious and worth the trip
Black beans tasty also. Ground beef burrito was surprisingly loaded with meat
Never had a mojito with so much crushed mint

Loved the guacamole. Food was prepared well and presentation was aesthetically pleasing. A step up from "normal" Mexican fare.

Great food, unique options and Mexican classics, fun environment. Don't be scared away by the exterior/neighborhood. There are a few days/year that they don't accept coupons including the Restaurant.com gift certificate (Valentine's, Cinco de Mayo, etc) so check before you go if this is important to you

Waitress was excellent, lunch buffet was very reasonable priced and excellent and had nice variety.
