The waitress was very scattered. she was nice, but forgot to bring my husbands salad and brought mine late. Then she offered a free dessert, which she brought to my table without asking what I wanted or without asking if maybe we wanted to pay for a different dessert. She then forgot my coffee. Really bad service.

Food was very good. However, our server incorrectly described the side dishes for the special. Instead of the mushroom risotto she described, it came with pumpkin polenta. Went from highly anticipated to highly disappointing.

Had to ask the waiter for our drink order several times before he finally brought it. Then we had to ask him for some bread, which was never brought until the meal arrived.We also had to ask him why the salad was not served after 20 min after eating the appetizers. Finally we told him the service was unacceptable. Things improved after that. But not a good experience for my birthday!!!

The fire trucks came twice while the interior fire alarms were going of in the restaurant. They brought the wrong dinner for one of our guests. The correct order arrived promptly, once our waiter was told. Did not routinely come to fill water glasses. Forgot to bring a second glass of wine, that was ordered during dinner. Our waiter appologized. No complimentary offers were made. Most difficulties were laughed off.

There was a large party that came in right after we were seated. The waiter was very busy and apologized for the slow service which was after we received our meal.

Cafe Riace is a very pleasant place to have dinner, particularly when the weather is nice and you can enjoy sitting outside. The food is usually quite good, the portions generous, and the price reasonable for the Palo Alto area.
