Waiter was great. Host was sweet. Room was beautiful and service terrific. My only wish was that the crab louie salad I ordered was bigger. Other than that I loved the food. The chowder was worth going back for!!!

Service was average. We had to get our own utensils.
Happy hour prices were only good at the bar and to get those prices you had to get your own drink and bring it back to the table. Even the waiter thought it was a terrible way to serve drinks.

Overall an enjoyable experience. Pretty views. Ordered the crab cakes dinner. Delicious but much too salty. Came with plain rice and very nice mixed vegetables. Liked the warm sourdough rolls. I requested a small caesar salad, but they only offered the $11 large one, so I didn't order it. Excellent coffee.

The table was superb, the waiter was great, the food was very good, the only thing that was a little disappointing was the music was sometimes too loud, making conversation difficult.

It was an average place. Kind of expensive. Can't compare it to the quality of Scoma's or the atmosphere of Pompei's Grotto a few doors down.

First it took over 10 minutes for a waiter to come to get our order, after we asked a buss boy to find hime.
Second: the music was so loud from the sound system it was hard to hear.
Third: The food was rather expensive for the quality we received.
We would never return.

I have 2 additional gift certificates to this restaurant that I'm hoping to return/exchange. This was my 2nd visit here and the food/service was less than mediocre. Plus they changed their menu from the menu I read online when I initially purchased the gift certificates.

On vacation in San Francisco, but ate at several other restaurants in comparible price range with local discounts that had a greater menu variety and equal or better food.

It was not a bad eating experience but it felt quite ordinary but also quite expensive considering the fair quality of the food. The service was great however.

I have been eating at Castagnola's since I was a little girl. Everyone got their food served but me. After waiting a bit I had to ask someone where my meal was. We were very disappointed with the service but food was great

The Cioppino broth was good but the seafood had no taste, the clam chowder also had very little taste. The size of the shrimp on the pasta was good but the sause itself had very little taste.

We spent three hours in the bar and ended up eating our dinner at the bar. Paul, the piano player was an absolute blast. He made sure everyone had a great time. Would definitely go back again.
