Rated 4 out of 5 by Patricia A The restaurant has been in business since the early 1900's, one that everyone needs to experience as a Portland institution. Inside, the dining area looks like the hold of an old sailing ship. Plates on the walls are from all over the world, and lighted old photos show nautical Portland scenes. In the floor of the bar is a shanghai tunnel. The oysters are terrific, especially the grilled version. Jan 11, 2015

Rated 4 out of 5 by Caroline B We ordered steamed clams and regretted it. Should have gotten the oysters on the half shell. The clams were gritty and very bland. There were barely 2 dozen in a pound of clams. The steak was good and the prawns were excellent. We were there at the end of the day so perhaps that had something to do with it. Jan 1, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by Madeleine N We have been going annually for 35 years, and the quality of the food has gone down hill, while the pries have gone up. We keep coming back because it is a Christmas tradition, but this may have been our last time. Dec 29, 2014

Rated 3 out of 5 by Clare F surprised that the dining room is no longer open during the day. very noisy tables by the open door. homeless person coming in banging on nearest table and hollering. ordered small plates but still surprised to receive smaller than 2oz scallops as a serving, should be called extra small plate.
