Rated 1 out of 5 by S S We've eaten here several times when we've been in Orlando, and have always been delighted at the well-prepared, quite authentic Japanese cuisine (one if us is Japanese, the other lived there for 6 years). We were sorely disappointed this time. Things were off from the moment we sat down. First, the two of us were offered a single menu, and we had to ask for a second menu; he service was very slow - it was a good 10 minutes before our order was taken. We ordered a couple of appetizers, some sushi and two lunch boxes. The sushi was OK - the rice ws abut hard; the miso eggplant was good; the shumai seemed to be the exact same frozen product we buy at our local Asian market, but at least it was steaming hot when it arrived. We both chose miso soup with our lunch boxes and it was quite good- the only thing we ate that either of us would call "excellent", Things went south when our lunch boxes arrived. First, the waiter forgot our tempura sauces. When he did bring it, he only brought one. The tempura vegetables were cold and soggy, ike theyd been left in the fridge for a few hours and then bare warmed, The shrimp tempura entrée in one of our boxes was better, but was really more of a fry than a tempura. the other entree, tonkatsu (pork cutlet) was cold, overcooked and tough. The sauce for this, too, was forgotten and had to be asked for. One of u had brown rice, which as properly pressure cooked and tender. The other had white rice which was hard and dry. Though we were served 2 slices of a sushi roll, neither of us were offered a dish for soy sauce and wasabi for dipping. Not until we had had to ask for several tings that should have been brought with out asking (dished, sauces..) were we asked how everything was. In the process of discussing the details of everything that was wrong, we learned that the meal had been prepared by "the part time chef. You must have eaten here before when the full time chef was in the kitchen". Waiter offered this as the explanation, and seemed to think this was an acceptable reason we had not enjoyed our meal. To his credit, he did come back and offer us a credit for a future bento box. Now we know to ask before we order: Is the full time chef cooking today?" Forearmed with that knowledge with a credit for a free bento box, we will try Nagoya again. Without the opportunity to confirm for free that they can still produce a good meal, we would not have considered going back. Dec 16, 2014
