Service was excellent waitress could not have been nicer. She was very helpful with selection of food. They were out of one of the appetizers she recommended to us but everything else was good.

Although somewhat busy (Mothers Day), restaurant was only about half-full and still they were considerably underprepared.
Long wait to be seated & for server although food was good as usual.

Our waitress was very good...but we waited over 90 minutes to get our food. When it came out most of it was cold and had to be sent back. Once the food was rewarmed it was good and tasty. They did comp us a couple of bottles of wine for our wait. THe restaurant wasnt' busy so there really wasn't an excuse for the long wait.

Several members of our party had a taste for German food, and we were not disappointed. The food was carefully prepared and delicious, and even the folks who were not German food lovers enjoyed it. Service was courteous. We waited for our entrees, but it was clear that they were cooked to order, so it was worth the wait. We did have a hard time finding our waiter at one point, but it wasn't a serious problem.

Staff seemed short a server or two so even the bartender was really running to help serve. Made us feel just a little pensive. But Alyssa (sp?) was so excellent and the food was lovely. It was large party for birthday and they really took care of us!

Some of the food was not good. Menu had ceaser salad they don't have. Gouloush was not good. Mashed potatoes were not good. Waiter was not a good rep of this restaurant.

The St. Louis Gast Haus is a charming German restaurant and bar located on Chouteau Avenue.
Start off your meal the German way with a steaming bowl of cabbage soup or warm pretzel appetizers which is accompanied by a spicy mustard or a cheese sauce for dipping.
Main entrees include everything German, from the ever popular Wienerschnitzel, made with a juicy veal cutlet that is breaded and sauteed to perfection, to their Haehnchenschnitzel, prepared in the same way but with chicken instead of veal.
Das Gast Haus serves up a delicious vegetable casserole, and Rouladen, which consists of tender pieces of beef and bacon wrapped around a dill pickle.
The potato pancakes are light and crispy and the red cabbage is delicious.
