Highlights

Sekisui. At Jimmy Ishii's wildly successful Sekisui restaurants, sushi chefs don't just push the envelope; they put the envelope through the paper shredder. Chefs are encouraged to show off their creativity and listen to customer's ideas; creating sushi rolls that can't be found anywhere else. Also, purists will be delighted with the exhaustive lineup of nigiri sushi - perfectly sliced fish atop a mound of rice seasoned with vinegar, sugar and a touch of sake. The restaurant's fresh fish is flown in several times a week from locations such as Hawaii, Louisiana, and Los Angeles. There's something to please everyone. The extensive menu covers lots of familiar Japanese cuisine territory with teriyaki, tempura and udon noodles. Lively and noisy might not be typical descriptions of most Japanese restaurants, but the words fit Sekisui. With six locations spread across the city, Sekisui is never more than a short drive away making it a popular neighborhood hang-out, always full of familiar faces.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We had the Friday lunch buffet and it was incredible! They put such classy, delicious rolls out on the buffet. The teriyaki chicken and calamari were excellent too. Just can't say enough good about the whole experience.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I believe the variety and quality of the menu has gone down a bit in the past couple of years. The pork in the bento box was very dry. The steak was great. Sekisui is a mixed bag of good and fairly good. They only had one waitress working and she was running hard covering the whole restaurant by herself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Such attention to detail and amazing staff. Elegant atmosphere that is perfect for date night or self splurging. The dishes are all amazing and with the restaurant.Com discount I was brave enough to feel free to try three new things. I will be back soon and this place has moved to one of my favorites.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The only thing I dont like is that they use those cheap red plastic coca cola cups for soft drinks. A restaurant of this caliber should be using real glassware.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pulled in the big lot right next door to the restaurant. Most places have free parking after 6pm. Did not see any sign saying 24 hour paid parking. most people that go to that restaurant pull up close to the restaurant where there is no signage that says you must pay 24 hours. Please put a sign there so people know enough to pay if there was a sign there I would have paid the fee. Instead I received a ticket for $23. Let your customers know that that lot is 24 hour paid parking.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from We started with soup. I ordered the Osumashi (sp.?) Soup which featured "mushrooms, tempura crumbs" etc. There as a small sliver of a mushroom - that was it. I mentioned it to the waiter and he said there was a "power struggle" in the kitchen. My husband got his Spicy Gyoza soup a long time after I finished. When his soup was delivered, our server again mentioned the tension and power struggle in the kitchen. Then we waited, and waited, and waited. Finally, I am assuming the manager, came over with another server and said our order was "lost in the computer". That was the last we saw of our server. We had to give our again (keep in mind the first server wrote it on paper - did he toss it?). I ordered the Kaki Fry (6 fried oysters). After another long wait, I was served 4 oysters but was charged the price of the 6. The oysters were delicious! I was finished with my oysters for maybe half an hour, when my Nabeyoki Udon arrived (of course it was MINUS the 1 shrimp, 1 crab stick, 1 fish cake the menu referred to). I did get chicken and tofu. The poached egg either had no yellow or it was broken into the broth, because there was no visible yellow. I had high hopes for this place after reading the menu. We were very disappointed and probably would not make another visit there. I feel we got ripped off - because nothing was as described on the menu. When I was served the 4 oysters rather than the 6 specified, I should have known this was not going to end well. I would go down the street and pay a little more than to go back there and get cheated.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Since the new owner has taken over, this is the 1st time we have visited. I am very pleased! Not much has changed, except the new owner has created a vegan menu! Love it!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from We were not given menus when we were seated even though we told them we were ordering off of the menu. The waitress did not bring the salads that were included with the gluten free meals we ordered until I was adamant that the menu said they were included. It took quite a while to get our food. It would be nice if there were more gluten free choices that were kid-friendly.
