Highlights
Welcome to Sona, where you will experience the finest in Indian cuisine.
Sona means gold or golden. It also means beautiful. At Sona Restaurant, we believe the word sona cannot be easily described -- it must be experienced. In India, there's a tale about the sona champa, a delicate, golden flower that possesses an ethereal fragrance once prized by the people of India. The sona champa tree has glossy, green leaves and can grow as tall as 100 feet in a pyramidal shape. Legend has it that when the tree is in full bloom, covered with fragrant, golden blossoms, a celestial god and goddess descend to dance around it, enjoying the rare and exquisite beauty and the divine fragrance. This heavenly splendor is the true experience of the word sona -- and why in North India we always say the native food is very sona!
Indian cuisine is as diverse as its culture, its people, its geography, and its climate. The essence of good Indian cooking revolves around the appropriate use of aromatic spices. The skill lies in the subtle blending of these spices to enhance, rather than overwhelm, the flavor of a particular dish.
We at Sona Restaurant value the eclectic origins of Indian cuisine, spanning from the Aryans, Turks, Greeks, and Romans to the Chinese, Mongols, Persians, and finally the British. The philosophy of Indian cooking is derived from ayurveda, ayur meaning life and veda meaning knowledge. It has been said that the science of ayurveda is at the very core of many of our Indian food-preparation techniques, developed to satisfy the physical, mental, psychological, and spiritual needs of man. The name of our restaurant mirrors this philosophy: We believe life is beautiful, and so is life-giving food. Recalling the divine experience of the fully bloomed sona champa tree, we hope you enjoy the beauty, fragrance, and taste of our carefully prepared dishes.
